"The notion of GDPR as a monster needs to be changed," says Compliance Officer Dennis Benneballe Arnold-Grade from Hesehus. With Wired Relations, Dennis combines the flexibility of Excel with an intuitive user interface, creating a clear and user-friendly process for managing GDPR. This approach allows the entire company to participate in the compliance efforts.

“The most enjoyable part of working with compliance is making complicated things simple. And that is the DNA of Wired Relations”.

Dennis Benneballe Arnold-Grade is Compliance Officer & Legal Assistant in the company Hesehus – an E-commerce house that develops B2B and B2C webshops.

Dennis primarily uses Wired Relations for GDPR compliance, particularly for managing the annual ISAE 3000 audit statement. In the long term, he plans to leverage it for information security work as well.

If you ask Dennis why the choice fell on Wired Relations as their GRC software, the answer is clear.

"We previously used a platform made by lawyers, and we wanted to get away from that. It was too complex – I didn't understand it, and our lawyers didn't understand it. We almost thought that Excel would be better. But then we saw Wired Relations and saw that it was intuitive and easy to use”.

Can customise it yourself

Dennis is particularly excited about how you can customise Wired Relations and make it your own. A large part of Hesehus' GDPR work is in relation to their role as data processor for their customers. Therefore, the annual auditor's statement is a central part of their work. In Wired Relations' governance module, they have created an entire framework specifically for that.

"It is so great that we have been able to define categories, options in dropdown menus, response options, status, etc. It means that I have a greater drive to work with it, because I have built it myself. It is not like in other systems, where everything is automated. You can't automate, when you have to think for yourself," says Dennis and emphasises that it also provides a great safeguard of knowledge, because a colleague will be able to log in and quickly understand what needs to be done.

"I prioritised finding a tool that empowered me to solve tasks correctly myself, rather than just delegating them".

Covers the solution well

Although it is the annual auditor's statement that takes up a lot of Dennis’ time, he still uses the solution widely on a daily basis. He makes a point of being thorough with their processing activities, brushing them off completely and risk-assessing systems and suppliers.

The Task Manager is also useful and helps to ensure a good overview.

With the Task Manager, you can create tasks large or small and also delegate tasks to others in the organisation.

"With one look, I can see what I'm missing and how far along I am," as Dennis says.

The best of both worlds

Dennis is particularly excited about the simplicity of Wired Relations.

"It is no good with all those GRC solutions who profile themselves as being able to do everything. It's like stepping into a primeval forest - you don't know where you are. Wired Relations is the ideal tool as it combines the best of the Excel approach, such as the ability to customise and link data points, with the benefits of the platform world. It has an intuitive user interface, well-functioning functions and support for practical work through tools such as the Task Manager and the visual overview of the systems”.

For Dennis, there is a task in changing the notion of GDPR as being a monster and a burden for employees. By making it simple and engaging, it can be a positive experience, he explains.

"We should see GDPR as a positive societal development that protects everyone's rights, creates balance and ensures trust".

"My most important job is to simplify GDPR for my colleagues. It doesn’t have to be complicated when you have the right tool."
